Shadowlawn Landscape and Design is a small company with a heart for the people we serve. As a Master Gardener, Claire has learned to know many plants. You will hear her use the latin names — that is because words matter and each plant has it’s own identity and plant DNA. This knowledge helps her to determine which cultivated variety is right for any given situation. We love to see our clients smile from ear to ear when we are finished with their landscape installation.
How We Change Lives
Science has finally caught up to what outdoor enthusiasts already knew, that is having access to a beautiful, natural outdoor space is healing. Our brains are able to relax, we are able to think differently, we actually lay down new nural pathways that enable us to solve problems, and think creatively. In a nutshell we become refreshed and renewed.
At Shadowlawn Landscape and Design, we believe a beautiful garden can change our lives. That belief drives our purpose and informs our design process. It’s not just about creating beauty in a garden, it’s about creating new life in the humans that inhabit that garden. We now have scientific evidence to support what landscape and garden designers have known for years, access to the world of nature beauty in outdoor world allows us to think differently, our brains actually lay down new pathways. We can think more creatively and are able to problem solve. Children with ADHD, Autism, or learning difficulties are able to focus in their attention, and participate in a more positive manner, which in turn raises their self esteem and propels toward life long achievement. Meet the Designer
Claire Schuchman
In about the year 2000 a friend and I began taking care of gardens in the South Hills and the East End of Pgh. We loved it. In 2004 I became a Master Gardener for Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden. I gained confidence through this educational experience, which allowed me to advance as a landscape provider, and gave me confidence in my ability to provide high quality design services.
